Today I am sharing with you 46 Ways to Eat Avocados. Avocados are so versatile and so good for you, no wonder we put them in everything, huh?
If there is something a Latina loves, it’s avocados.
We put them on salads, we fill them up with yummy ingredients and serve them as appetizers, we mash them up and make yummy dips with them, we sprinkle them with sea salt and pepper and eat them by the spoonful. Okay, that last one might be something that just my mom and I do, ha! But you get my point. Avocados are our jam! We love us some ripe, ready to eat avocados.
In Ecuador, I used to find them everywhere, but my favorite way to buy them was on the side of the street, where produce sellers had set up little tents for the day to sell all sorts of colorful fruits and vegetables. Like a mini farmer’s market, if you will. I remember these little tent shops carrying the juiciest and most fragrant produce ever, and it was all pretty much ready to eat and in season.
Once, my mom and I bought twelve massive (I am talking ginormous) avocados for one dollar. A DOLLAR! It was the bargain of the year. Mom and I were jumping of joy. I think those particular sellers were having a surplus and needed to get rid of their avocados before they’d get too ripe and no one wanted to buy them. Normally, we’d buy three avocados for dollar. That’s still a bargain, though! If you’re thinking of moving to Latin America and have a love for avocados, you might consider Ecuador. You might get as lucky as we did and find twelve avocados for a buck someday.
Mom and I made everything with avocados that week: guacamole, sauces, salads, you name it. We both are avocado obsessed, so we were in heaven the entire time.
Because of my love for avocados, it’s only natural for me to be constantly looking for recipes that carry avocados in them, or that use them as their main ingredient. Especially since you can do all sorts of recipes with them (sweet, savory, spicy). Today I am going to share with you some of my favorite avocado recipes; forty six, to be exact. I’m pretty sure you’ll find something for every palate and every craving…I’ve got refreshing smoothies, yummy sauces, light appetizers, filling entrees and even decadent chocolate desserts for ya! Yum yum.
Let me know which ones are your favorites, and/or if you’d like to see a recipe in particular that is not on this list already.
