The holiday is getting closer and closer. Eek, I am so excited! I cannot wait to get the day off and relax with friends and family. I am going to lay back and take the day suuuper easy. It’s going to be wonderful. Not going to wake up early, not going to cook (don’t judge me, I cook every day of the year!), not going to workout, and actually…thinking of doing a juice fast for every meal other than the main Thanksgiving meal.

I was inspired by my hairdresser to do this. While cutting my hair, she was telling me how backwards she feels Thanksgiving is…how we, in the US, overstuff ourselves on the day we are supposed to “give thanks”, and since we are so focused on this huge meal and preparing for it, we really sort of forget to truly appreciate all the blessings we are freely given and forget to meditate upon them. She believes that instead, it would be incredibly sacrificial and grateful if we were to fast; where we would take one full day to engage our thoughts and slow down, having more time to meditate and be grateful for every wonderful blessing.

This was eye opening to me and I thought that it was exactly what I needed to do. I can’t 100% fast that day, because I think it would be rude from me to go to my family’s Thanksgiving dinner and not eat any of the food they’ve carefully prepared for us with love. However, I plan on fasting the rest of the meals that day. I am way excited about this and my husband is going to do it along with me! I love how my husband and I have similar desires and think very much alike; it’s going to be wonderful to give thanks to the Lord for all the love and gifts he has freely given us. I love having Christ as the center of our marriage and I consider that the biggest blessing of all.

What are you grateful for?

I am new to paleo. I searched the web for a gravy recipe and wound up here. I’m so glad! This gravy is YUMMY! The only thing I did differently is I sautéed the onions and garlic first. This melded all the flavors together nicely and gave the gravy a more traditional brown color. Appearance means everything to my two kiddos! lol! They were definitely fooled by this healthy gravy 🙂 I will be making this often! Thanks!

    1. Hi Jennifer! Welcome to the Paleo family…and welcome to Amazing Paleo! I am so glad to hear you liked the gravy recipe… sautéing the onions and the garlic 1st was a genius idea. I’ll try doing that next time! Thanks for your comment 🙂

    1. Hi Whitney! Some Paleo folks use butter, some don’t. If you want to stay 100% away from dairy and not use butter, I would recommend you substitute butter with coconut oil for your recipes. 🙂

  2. Greetings! I’ve been reading your web site for some time now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give you a shout out from Austin Tx! Just wanted to tell you keep up the fantastic job!

Your recipe reads “coconut aminos” but your photo shows Braggs which is made from only soy beans and water. I thought paleo was no soy beans?

    1. Nadine, I use organic coconut aminos, and I didn’t even realize the picture that is posted in this blog was Braggs. Good catch. Maybe she corrected the recipe, but not the photo.
